BIO Comments on USDA-AMS National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard

July 3, 2018

Washington, D.C. (July 3, 2018) – The Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) has submitted comments to USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (USDA-AMS) on its proposed rule for the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard.

In its comments, BIO applauds USDA for this undertaking and voices support for the principles underlying the USDA-AMS program that establishes a uniform national bioengineered food disclosure standard, including the scope of food subject to the standard.

BIO is a member of the Coalition for Safe Affordable Food (CFSAF), a broad-based coalition spanning the food supply chain – from seed producers, to growers, to food manufacturers and retailers – and references the CFSAF’s comments to which BIO is a signatory.

BIO looks forward to a USDA-AMS final rule that – in accordance with Congressional intent – implements the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard in a way that is beneficial to consumers, farmers and food manufacturers, while promoting the biotechnology innovations that help support a robust national biobased economy.
